BONNER SPRINGS BPW OCTOBER 13, 2009 BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES

The Bonner Springs BPW Business Meeting was held on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at South Park Recreation Center and called to order at 6:35 PM by President Jeannine Gallagher with Debe Birzer as Acting Recording Secretary.  The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America was led by Ann Taylor and The Collect by Linda Linkugel.  Dinner, provided by President Jeannine Gallagher, was self-served immediately following the call to order activities.

Roll Call was taken silently by Emblem with 8 members present.  There was a quorum.

Ø  DEBE BIRZER (P), MARY BLANCARTE (P), JEANNINE GALLAGHER (E), JANE HANKS (E), SUSAN HOPKINS (E), LANA KING (P), LINDA LINKUGEL (P), & ANN TAYLOR (P).

Correspondence by Corresponding Secretary Lana King – Professional Women Fall conference at Newton, KS invitation with “Christmas in October” & Thank You from Ashley Robert.

Treasurer’s Report – filed for audit.

Minutes September 22^nd, 2009 – Approve as printed.

Reports – Retreat in Topeka, October 4^th, 2009 –Jane Hanks, Linda Linkugel, Ann Taylor & Nance Olson (absent) were attendees at the Retreat. 

Ø  New state web page -- kansasbpw@gmail.com

Ø  Must change local’s name eventually

Ø  Will need to revise ID & Young Careerist programs

Ø  Will need to re-name Business Women’s Week for the 3^rd week in October

Ø  Membership has stabilized state wide

Ø 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Ø  Fall Conference/Board in Newton – 7 Local Members will be attending. 

o   Bingo prizes for the Foundation Auction + White Elephant Gifts for State Organization

UNFINISHED BUSINESS –

Ø  Tabled – Bylaws & Standing Rules until November 24, 2009’s local business meeting

NEW BUSINESS –

Ø  Vaughn-Trent Christmas Parade – Trophy – Motion #1 made by Ann Taylor moved to “…purchase a trophy for the Vaughn-Trent Christmas Parade, not to exceed $50.” Seconded & adopted.

Ø  Bonner Springs BPW Supporters – President Elect Ann Taylor presided.  President Jeannine Gallagher spoke to the membership about adding a new event.  Motion #2 made by Linda Linkugel moved that our organization “…recognize the Bonner Springs BPW Supporters at the October 27^th meeting to present certificate of appreciation and a catered meal.” Seconded & adopted.

Ø  High School Renaissance Attendance – Motion #3 made by Jane Hanks to “…donate $100 per quarter to the Bonner Springs High School Renaissance Attendance Program for 2009-2010 school year.” Seconded & adopted.

Ø  Safe Home Gift Cards for State Conference – Motion #4 made by Linda Linkugel “…to give 35 - gift cards $5.00 each from Wal-Mart totaling $175.00.”  (Cards to be presented to State President Helen Norman at Fall Conference to be distributed to Safe Homes across Kansas – National Domestic Violence Month - RATIONAL).  Seconded & adopted.

Ø  Local monthly Newsletters needed to continue.  Jane Hanks volunteered to be the Newsletter Chair for 2009-2010.

Ø  Motion #5 made by Linda Linkugel moved to “…cancel November 24, 2009 Business Meeting.”  Seconded & adopted.

MEMBERS –

Ø  Farmstead order forms are available until December 23, 2009.

President’s Report –

Ø  Renaissance Festival shift dates & times updated.

Ø  Farm Stead Treats – Susan Roberts & Debe Birzer will attempt to put price listing on web page.

Ø  High School Renaissance Attendance – motivational promotion for student attendance.

Ø  October 13, 2009 Business of Year & Woman of the Year.

Ø  November 10, 2009 Dinner Meeting guest speaker will be about Home Schooling in Kansas.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Ø  Sandstone –  post event updated by President Jeannine.

Ø  Other – Silent Witness Silhouettes; Susan Roberts updated about the making of our own organization’s sets.

Ø  Other – Debe Birzer reported on October 18, 2009 Red Purse Line event. Motion #1 – Debe Birzer moved to cancel the first Red Purse Line event originally scheduled for 10-8-2009. Seconded & adopted.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS –

Ø  Share Fun  $ Account – By-Laws Committee will re-visit rules of GCF (Good Conscience Fund) to include sharing Fun $ with other members. 

Ø  By-Laws and Standing Rules Committee will meet after the Kansas BPW Fall Conference.

NEW BUSINESS –

Ø  Vaughn-Trent Christmas Parade – Motion #2 – Jane Hanks moved to purchase glow sticks and/or glow bracelets to hand out during the Vaughn-Trent Christmas Parade on Nov . 30, 2009. Quantity of 300 not to exceed $40.00. Seconded & adopted.

Ø  Kansas BPW Retreat on October 4, 2009 at Topeka – announcement of agenda items.

Ø  Kansas BPW Fall Conference, October 23-25, 2009, Newton – registration forms available online.

Ø  BINGO Prizes & Foundation Auction – will be held at BPW Fall Conference, October 23-25, 2009

MEMBERS –

Ø  Susan Roberts shared that prayers are needed for her friend Jeannine Nash’s grandmother’s surgery.

Ø  Cecelia Correa’s sister passed away on September 18, 2009. Sympathy card was signed by attendees.

Ø  Need to get out-of-town college students’ updated addresses.

ANNOUNCEMENTS –

Ø  Bring items to be given to the Safe Homes in local’s area during October meetings; October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Dinner, provided by Debe Birzer, was self-served at 6:30 PM.  The Bonner Springs BPW Business Meeting was held on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at South Park Recreation Center and called to order at 7:00 PM.  The meeting was called to order by President Jeannine Gallagher with Debe Birzer Acting Recording Secretary.  The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America was led by Linda Linkugel and The Collect by Ann Taylor. 

 Roll Call was taken silently by Emblem with 9 members.  There was a quorum.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT – 2009-2010 BS BPW Membership dues explanation.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

  Scholarship – Linda Linkugel reported on BSHS Partnership Program scholarship applicants.  After discussion, Motion #2, made by Susan Roberts and seconded, “Pay each student that is in the partnership program a flat fee of $120.00” Motion #3, made by Jane Hanks and seconded, “To substitute the following motion for main motion #2; award the high school students in the Partnership Scholarship Program $150.00 (one hundred and fifty dollars) for 2 semesters, as in one regular school year.”  Adopted.

Silent Witness Silhouettes - Debe Birzer reported on August 29, 2009 Silent Witness Silhouette display that 1000 postcard size “ads” were created and distributed to local stores & asked for volunteers to help with displays on Saturday, August 29^th.

September 8^th Dinner Meeting – Ann Taylor reported that food and guest speaker were arranged.  Guest speaker will be Molly Kent or Kansas City, KS, author or The Last Bandstand on the Arizona.  She will also speak about being a female author in today’s society.

September 22^nd Business Meeting – Susan Roberts & Jane Hanks will provide the food for meeting.

MEMBERS –

>  First Christian Church will hold pancake breakfast on Saturday, August 29^th (Tiblow Days) from 6 – 9 AM – reported by Jane Hanks.

Ø  United Methodist Church will hold annual BBQ on September 12^th form 4 – 7 PM– reported by Susan Roberts.

Ø  Grateful Threads, of United Methodist Church ladies, finished a quilt to be raffled off at BBQ.  Tickets available from male church members or see Ann Taylor or Susan Roberts – reported by Susan Hopkins.
