BONNER SPRINGS BPW OCTOBER 13, 2009 BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES
The Bonner Springs BPW Business Meeting was held on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at South Park Recreation Center and called to order at 6:35 PM by President Jeannine Gallagher with Debe Birzer as Acting Recording Secretary. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America was led by Ann Taylor and The Collect by Linda Linkugel. Dinner, provided by President Jeannine Gallagher, was self-served immediately following the call to order activities.
Roll Call was taken silently by Emblem with 8 members present. There was a quorum.

Treasurer’s Report – filed for audit.
Minutes September 22nd, 2009 – Approve as printed.
Reports – Retreat in Topeka, October 4th, 2009 –Jane Hanks, Linda Linkugel, Ann Taylor & Nance Olson (absent) were attendees at the Retreat.

Ø Vaughn-Trent Christmas Parade – Trophy – Motion #1 made by Ann Taylor moved to “…purchase a trophy for the Vaughn-Trent Christmas Parade, not to exceed $50.” Seconded & adopted.
Ø Bonner Springs BPW Supporters – President Elect Ann Taylor presided. President Jeannine Gallagher spoke to the membership about adding a new event. Motion #2 made by Linda Linkugel moved that our organization “…recognize the Bonner Springs BPW Supporters at the October 27th meeting to present certificate of appreciation and a catered meal.” Seconded & adopted.
Ø High School Renaissance Attendance – Motion #3 made by Jane Hanks to “…donate $100 per quarter to the Bonner Springs High School Renaissance Attendance Program for 2009-2010 school year.” Seconded & adopted.
Ø Safe Home Gift Cards for State Conference – Motion #4 made by Linda Linkugel “…to give 35 - gift cards $5.00 each from Wal-Mart totaling $175.00.” (Cards to be presented to State President Helen Norman at Fall Conference to be distributed to Safe Homes across Kansas – National Domestic Violence Month - RATIONAL). Seconded & adopted.
Ø Local monthly Newsletters needed to continue. Jane Hanks volunteered to be the Newsletter Chair for 2009-2010.
Ø Motion #5 made by Linda Linkugel moved to “…cancel November 24, 2009 Business Meeting.” Seconded & adopted.

Ø Share Fun $ Account – By-Laws Committee will re-visit rules of GCF (Good Conscience Fund) to include sharing Fun $ with other members.
Ø By-Laws and Standing Rules Committee will meet after the Kansas BPW Fall Conference.

Ø Vaughn-Trent Christmas Parade – Motion #2 – Jane Hanks moved to purchase glow sticks and/or glow bracelets to hand out during the Vaughn-Trent Christmas Parade on Nov . 30, 2009. Quantity of 300 not to exceed $40.00. Seconded & adopted.
Ø Kansas BPW Retreat on October 4, 2009 at Topeka – announcement of agenda items.
Ø Kansas BPW Fall Conference, October 23-25, 2009, Newton – registration forms available online.

Ø Susan Roberts shared that prayers are needed for her friend Jeannine Nash’s grandmother’s surgery.
Ø Cecelia Correa’s sister passed away on September 18, 2009. Sympathy card was signed by attendees.

PROGRAM – Chair Ann Taylor introduced Guest speaker Molly Kent, author of USS ARIZONA’S LAST BAND; THE HISTORY OF U.S. BAND NUMBER 22. Mrs. Kent spoke about how to write and publish a book.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Scholarship – Linda Linkugel reported on BSHS Partnership Program scholarship applicants. After discussion, Motion #2, made by Susan Roberts and seconded, “Pay each student that is in the partnership program a flat fee of $120.00” Motion #3, made by Jane Hanks and seconded, “To substitute the following motion for main motion #2; award the high school students in the Partnership Scholarship Program $150.00 (one hundred and fifty dollars) for 2 semesters, as in one regular school year.” Adopted. Silent Witness Silhouettes - Debe Birzer reported on August 29, 2009 Silent Witness Silhouette display that 1000 postcard size “ads” were created and distributed to local stores & asked for volunteers to help with displays on Saturday, August 29th.
September 8th Dinner Meeting – Ann Taylor reported that food and guest speaker were arranged. Guest speaker will be Molly Kent or Kansas City, KS, author or The Last Bandstand on the Arizona. She will also speak about being a female author in today’s society.
September 22nd Business Meeting – Susan Roberts & Jane Hanks will provide the food for meeting.

Ø Grateful Threads, of United Methodist Church ladies, finished a quilt to be raffled off at BBQ. Tickets available from male church members or see Ann Taylor or Susan Roberts – reported by Susan Hopkins.
